Horse exhibition at Kjarvalsstaðir showroom this summer

No art loving horseman should miss this:

The visual art show “Jór! Hestar í íslenskri myndlist “ English translation: „Visual art and horses“ will be open at Kjarvalsstaðir from May 7th to August 21st.

“Horses have been a challenge for Icelandic artists from the beginning of time, either as a main subject or in a supporting role in paintings with terrain and/or people.

At this spectacular show  called „Jór!“ Or simply „Horse“ there will be about 48 paintings and 10 sculptures addressing in many different ways of how Icelandic artists have interpreted the connection between man and horse for roughly a century, or from the year 1900 and until the year 2010.

At this show, the work of all the main artists in Iceland within this period will be presented. The show will be divided into three main themes: The Requisite Servant: discussing everyday interaction between man and horse. Incarnated Storm; about horses as a part of nature and finally: Horses with wings; the Mythical Horse.

The stage master is: Aðalsteinn Ingólfsson.

Different interesting events will be offered at the show:

Saturday May 7th: Opening –  A team of young adults will appear at the formal opening, they are there on behalf of the Icelandic Horse Clubs Federation.

Sunday May 8th at 15:00 hrs: The stage master, Aðalsteinn Ingólfsson along with Gísli B. Björnsson  designer and author of the book “The Icelandic Horse” which is the most comprehensive work which has been published about this spectacular horse breed, and will guide the guests around the showrooms.

Sunday June 26th at 15:00 hrs: Lecture and guided tour. The guide and horse woman Bergljót Rist will give a lecture on the different coloration of the Icelandic horse. Following which the guests will be guided through the show. This has been organized in cooperation with the Icelandic Horse Clubs Federation.

Sunday August 7th at 14:00 hrs: Family oriented program which has been organized in cooperation with the Icelandic Horse Clubs Federation.

Saturday August 20th: The “Culture Evening”. Diverse program.

An English speaking guide will be at Kjarvalsstaðir exhibition hall every Thurstay at 11:00 hrs in June, July and August.
