We will do our best for our country and nation” – interview with Hinrik Bragason

Hinrik Bragason þjálfað has been training Glym frá Flekkudal for the past two years with the goal in mind to bring him to the World Championship in Austria……

On the other hand Glymur was injured this spring, which means that this plan Hinrik made could not materialize. But still having the desire to have a place in the national team, he brough Sigur frá Hólabaki to the Íslandsmót in Selfoss, and at that tournament he won the four gaites competition and earned himself two tickets to the World Championship.

“I was extremely disappointed when Glymur got slightly injured, but enough so that he needed a few weeks in order to recover. I needed to make a quick decision and think about what I could do with the horses I had in order to join the national team. Immediately I realized that if Sigur would continue to grow like he had been doing, we would certainly have a reasonable chance. He has so much going for him, both radiance and also he is extremely positive. Still I realized that in order to have a chance I had to win either one of the two events at Íslandsmót, either the four gaits or tölt. I felt that I had greated possibilities at the four gaits considering how Sigur had been progressing” says Hinrik who in short was the Icelandic championship winner in four gaits after having arrived into the finals in 5th place.

“Certainly I am extremely pleased with the results. I was competing with realy qualified and good riders. Sometimes things work out for you and this time it happened to me” says Hinrik who understandably is pleased to have the opportunity to have the chance to have a chance to address this great task along with his wife, Huldu Gústafsdóttir. “We were together in the national team at the WC 16 years ago, in 1995. It is extremeply enjoyable to have this opportunity again and gives us great strength, as we assist each other a lot as far as training and preparation concerns.”

Hinrik says that he is very balanced and is looking forward to the World Championship. “ I have prepared myself mentally for this particular task for almost two years. This preparation work was all around Glymur and now I have transferred this over to Sigur. I am very balanced and have been doing well in competitions this summer. Therefore I will travel to this tournament full of anticipation and we will try to do our best for our country and nation doing our very best.”
