Calm and promising offspring from Björk

Björk frá Litlu-Tungu 2 won the class of 4 year old mares at the Landsmót in 2004 with a total score of 8.49 which still today is the highest total score given to a 4 year old mare….

She was an extremely talented horse and received a score of 8.74 for qualities and 8.13 for conformation. Also she received a score of 9.0 for pace, spirit and temperament as well as general presence, and it was very impressive to see her pace securely with great movement, she was very forward and her presence was great.

At the Eiðfaxi interview in 2004 the owner of Björk, Vilhjálmur Þórarinsson said that from the start she had been a very exceptional and determined mare. „As a foal she was beautiful and instantly noticeable in the group of the foals we had and there is a tint of prima donna in her. When she was two years old she was fantastic, with great movements and had beautiful when running around, with her light body and awareness but she has always been a little boisterous – and always been noticeable in a crowd of horses everywhere. She knew right away what she wanted and she wanted to be treated with respect.“

Since then, Björk has seven offspring and two of them have been presented for 1st prize at Landmót 2011. They seem to have inherited the precocity and the great qualities of their mother. Out of Arður frá Brautarholti there is Bjarkar who received a total score of 8.19 in the class of 5 year old horses and out of Hróður frá Refsstöðum is Blíða who received a total score of 8.03 and 8th place in the class of 4 year old mares.

„All off the offspring of Björk have it in common to be calmer than she was. Their presence is good, they appear to have self confidence as foals and seem to have trust people immediately“ Vilhjálmur says, who has expectations to Birkir the 4 year old stallion out of  Dugur frá Þúfu who is now being trained by Erlingur Erlingsson. Other offspring from Björk can be mentioned, such as the son of Álfur, Bragi, who caught great attention as a foal at the 2009 show and then there is Baldur who was born in 2010 out of Kvistur frá Skagaströnd. Last spring Björk gave birth to a male foal out of Orri frá Þúfu. His name is Brynjar and is according to Vilhjálmur named after Brynjar Vilmundarson the great horse breeder at Fet.
