At the farm Álfhólar in Landeyjar, there are tales of exceptional women who have practiced mixed farming with great efficiency for forty years. The tales of the women at Álfhólar tell about their power and diligence. This is where Sara Ástþórsdóttir runs her training facilities which she designed herself.
In a detailed interview with her in Eiðfaxi 2012 2nd edition. Sara tells about her growing up at Álfhólar, her tales about memorable horses, how she approaches horse training and she also talks about her opinions on some current controversial matters within the horse sector.
Sara has never been idle and soon learnt to stand on her own feet, her career as a horse trainer started when she was only a child. „I remember when I was five, riding a horse and gathering sheep“ she says when she recollects her first memories in horsemanship. She is devoting all her time with horse, taking care of them and nurturing them and their upbringing and there are few things that she gets assistance with in her daily operation. Shoeing horses is one if these things, and she takes care of shoeing horses herself. „One has to be able to do things, make mistake and learn from them,” she says when her when asked about the drive which is characteristic of her and it is clear that she has been motivated by strong role models.
