Protection of the cultural heritage

Towards the end of last summer the Saga center of the Icelandic horse held a fantastic show of the Icelandic horse in a newly renovated housing which is situated in the heart of Hólar in Hjaltadalur.

Originally the house was built in the first half of the 20th century. Which is a century where a horse stable, barn and  storage room is a common possession and therefore quite appropriate to harbor the show, research and working facilities of the Saga center.

Arna Björg Bjarnadóttir historian and manager of the center walked around the Saga center with Eiðfaxi reporter, where she explained the coming and purpose of the center which does not only serve as a museum and congregation hall but it is also a work facility for scholars.

“The history of the Icelandic horse is a part of the legacy of  the Icelandic nation, which we are so lucky to be able to share with many countries and they have now started writing the history of this unique horse with us. The value of the Icelandic horse is not least in the fact that its  owners are aware of the origin, development and the horses role in the past and present.“ says Arna Björg.
