Smart arrangement!

Like some are aware of, for the past few years, or since the stallion Gustur frá Hóli stopped reproducing…

there have been some disagreements amongst the owners about the destiny of the horse. His owners consisted of three horse breeding associations in the East of Iceland, in the Eyjafjörður district along with the district of Þingeyingar and in the West of Iceland. In the year 2009 it was the people in the East who became the share owners of the ones in the West of Iceland, therefore possessing two thirds of the horse with the district of Eyjafjörður.

Gustur has for some time been taken care of by the family at Dýrfinnustaðir in Skagafjörður, Ingunn Ingólfsdóttir and her siblings, Björg and Trausti but Ingunn has been using the horse as her riding horse. Ingunn and Gustur have been connecting well as became clear to the spectators at the show in the Svaðastaðir riding hall in Sauðárkrókur last winter and can also be seen in photos accompanying an article by Bjarni Þorkelsson about Gustur in the 5th edition of Eiðfaxi, earlier this year.

The latest news is that the Horse breeding association of the East has given the children at Dýrfinnustaðir its share in Gustur, so that the owners of the horse at this time are the Horse breeding Association of Eyjafjörður and Þingeyinga who possess one third of the horse and the children at Dýrfinnustaðir who possess of two thirds share of the horse.

It will be exciting to watch the continuation of this matter. Following is a letter which the Horse breeding Association of the East sent to the parents of the children at Dýrfinnustaðir before the change of ownership took place.

Dear couple Unnur and Ingólfur,
I am writing these lines to you because of the old champ Gustur frá Hóli.
First of all I would like to thank you for the loving kindness that you and especially your daughters have shown the horse while being under your care.

It has been a cause for rejoice and I hope that our co-owners will also see how evident it is that the horse is enjoying the stay with you.
It has been the sincere wish of those who care about Gustur that he is being as well taken care of in his old age as possible and I can see (which in fact I knew before) that this is the right place for him.

Therefore it was the decision of the Horse breeding Association of the East to render the siblings at Dýrfinnustaðir its share (which is two thirds share of the horse) as a gift as it is written in the proceedings of the board.

 With these lines I would like to ask your parents to give us the honor of accepting this agreement of the board. But as these are children I think it is right to ask for your consent for this deed.

On December 8th last the Horse breeding Association of the East resigned the former agreement of the horse from the year 2000 along with all the addendums, wishing for a new agreement, but regretfully our co-owner who is the Horse breeding Association of Eyjafjörður and Þingeyinga has at this time not been able to attend in order to make a new agreement. Therefore it will be up to you to make a new agreement about the horse, should you wish for that to be done.

The horse will be given without any strings attached as far as we are concerned, but we would like to be able to keep an eye on him as we have been doing so far.

 Therefore, I would like to repeat my wish that you will let us give our share of the horse to your children and would like for you to send to us their social security numbers, for confirmation so that change of ownership can proceed.
