Búa til farandgrip til heiðurs Einari Øder

Helgina 18.-19. september er þriðja árið í röð haldið mót á Øder Arena á búgarðinum Pur Cheval í Frakklandi. Keppt verður í íþróttakeppni en lesa má meira um viðburðinn með því að smella hér. Staðarhaldarar eru þau Elías Þórhallsson og Berglind Inga Árnadóttir.

Völlurinn Øder Arena var vígður 2019 en það er eini löglegi keppnisvöllurinn í Frakklandi. Völlurinn hlaut nafnið Øder Arena til minningar um Einar Øder Magnússon, sem helgaði hestamennskunni líf sitt og var einn af okkar fremstu í greininni, sem ræktandi, keppandi, kennari og þjálfari. Øder Arena er löglegur bæði fyrir gæðinga- og íþróttakeppni því hann samanstendur af 250 metra hringvelli og 250 metra langri skeiðbraut með upphafs og enda kafla sem gefur samtals 310 metra langa braut. Því mætti einnig nýta breinu brautina til kynbótasýninga.

Í ár verður síðan afhentur svo kallaður Øder Cup, sérstök verðlaun til minningar um Einar Øder. Verðlaunin verða afhent fallegasta parinu eða parinu sem sýnir fallegustu reiðmennskuna. Í tilkynningu Pur Cheval kemur fram að þetta sé farandsgripur sem muni ferðast á milli landa, eins og Einar gerði sjálfur, og vera sérstök verðlaun á mismunandi mótum. Gripurinn er hannaður af Sigurði Inga Bjarnasyni, gullsmiði hjá Sign skartgripum, en markmiðið er að girpurinn muni fá að njóta sín á besta stað heimilisins.

„Today we are thrilled to introduce The ØDER CUP, a very special price we will be giving at the Pur Cheval 2021 Tournament to commemorate a dear friend Einar Øder Magnússon, who died far too early.

To so many Einar was a great mentor in the Icelandic riding, he was a role model and an inspirational force. He was at the forefront of the Icelandic equestrianism from early on and contributed a great deal to where it stands today by relentlessly travelling the world, introducing the Icelandic Horse and teaching the Icelandic riding.

To us Einar was first and foremost a very good friend, he was our mentor in building up our breed and he was a great resource when it came to planning the renovations of our facilities, always ready to take a good discussion about how to do it in the best possible manner.

International in his thinking, Einar introduced us to the world of horsemanship. Weather it be the Spanish School of Riding in Austria, the Portuguese Equestrian Art and its famous Lusitano horses, the Cadre Noir de Saumeur in France, he was endlessly interested and could talk about it for hours on end. We didn’t just talk, we also travelled together to some of these equestrian centers as well as different horse farms in Europe, to look, evaluate and learn.

To Einar the Icelandic riding was about the natural beauty of the horse, freedom of flow and movement, and the delicate balance between the untamed force within the horse and it’s willingness to respect and work with the rider.

With that in mind it seems only natural that the ØDER CUP, will be given to the “most beautiful couple” …the horse and his rider who represent the best of the best in the Icelandic riding.

However you do not own the ØDER CUP, you only borrow it for a while, and then pass it on to the next winner. It will travel between countries, as Einar did himself, and be a special price on different tournaments.

The piece itself is a beautiful sculpture made by Sigurður Ingi Bjarnason goldsmith at Sign, jewellery makers. Sigurður Ingi is well known for his creativity and artistic talent. Our aim is that the ØDER CUP will be a sculpture we would all be proud to display in the best spot of our home. Therefore we can hardly wait to present it for the first time, at the Pur Cheval 2021 tournament this September.“
