Huginn deceased
Huginn frá Kjartansstöðum is deceased at 32 years of age. Huginn came from the horse breeding of Þorvaldur Sveinsson and his sire was Náttfari frá Ytra-Dalsgerði and Terna frá Kirkjubæ.
Huginn was a remarkable gæðingur in the latter part of last century. He was a multiple winner in tölt competitions and was also a great pace horse and won many prizes for that event. As well as being the Icelandic champion in five gaits he won the five gaits competition of the World Championship in the year 1995. He was then sold to August Beyer and Susanne George and has had a good life in the Northern part of Germany and for the past few years he was a great joy within the riding school of Margot Großfeld.
In continuation of an idea which came from Sigurður V. Matthíasson at an interview with Eiðfaxi about Huginn in 2011 (which can be viewed here) Susanne started collecting together known champions in order to be presented at the World Championship in Berlin and the idea was that Huginn would lead the group of aged heroes at the tournament.
Huginn had many partners here in Iceland as well as abroad who give warm thoughts to this gæðingur at this time. „Huginn is an unbelievable horse. He is a great character and is always on my mind. Each riding tour was joyful and he was always fun to work with. At times he could be controlling and he was quite spirited but always pliable. H was always ready to give all he had in order to do what i asked him for,“ Sigurður V. Matthíasson said about Huginn.
