Honor to Ísold frá Gunnarsholti

One of the eight great mares which receive honor prize for their offspring this year is Ísold frá Gunnarsholti, the leading mare in the horse breeding stock belonging to….

Berglind Ágústsdóttir an Ragnar Sölvi Geirsson at Efra-Langholt. Ísold was born in Gunnarsholt in 1990 to the State Soil Conservation Service and Berglind bought her when she was three years old. She is out of Brennir frá Kirkjubæ and Djörfung frá Gunnarsholti. She was presented for breeding assessment in 1996 and received a total score of 8.19, for conformation she received 7.86 and a score of 8.53 for qualities. The total score for Ísold for breeding evaluation is not 116. In 2008 Jens Einarsson wrote a very informative article on Ísold following the good achievement of her first offspring, Garri.

Presently, Ísold has given burth to a total of 11 offspring, five of them have been assessed and four of them have received first prize.

As mentioned earlier, her first offspring is the breeding giant Garri, son of Orri frá Reykjavík who received a total score of 8.77 for breeding evaluation. He is now the topmost horse amongst breeding horses with a total score of 128  for breeding evaluation, from 318 registered offspring, 43 of them have been assessed and 26 of them have received 1st prize. (His highest assessed offspring are now Viktor frá Diisa (8.63), Tenór frá Túnsbergi (8.61) and Hvinur frá Vorsabæ 1 (8.47).

Three of Ísold‘s daughers; Venus, Dögun and Íris, are now a part of a very handsome group of breeding mares from Efra-Langholt.

This coming spring it will be exciting to watch two young stars of hope which are offsprings of Ísold. These are the daughter of Stáli, Ísbjörg who presently is being in ridden and according to Berglind she is very manageable and easy to tölt. Also there is a handsome young stud, 5 years old, named Leiftur and he is being trained and hopefully will be presented this spring.

This summer was born a beautiful chestnut with a blaze out of Mjölnir frá Hlemmiskeiði.

The owners of the eight mares which receive honor prize for their offspring this year will be receiving their prizes at the conference called Horsebreeding 2011 which will take place on Saturday, November 19th next.
