Horses for sale presented in competition

There is great demand for competition horses and horses are being sold based on the scores  they are receiving when shown on the oval tracks“.

The ideology behind the sales tournament is all about presenting horses that are for sale when they are in the competition, says Hallgrímur Birkisson one  of the organizers behind the Sales-tournament. The tournament will be  held in the Rangá arena October 1st next.

Horse breeders in the south region in Iceland are promoting this tournament and their participation is conditioned on the fact that the competition horses are all for sale. Three different sports judges will be present to judge at the competition, and also the fourth judge will be giving verbal explanations on what is happening in the arena. „The role of the fourth judge will be to explain why the horses get the scores that they receive“ Hallgrímur says adding that many have expressed their greatfulness with this tournament which is the first one of its kind, introducing sales horses.

The competition will be held in four gaits, five gaits and tölt T7 where the horeses will show slow tölt and free tempo but the reason for the kind of competition style T7 rather than T1 Hallgrímur says is because that form of competition is more useful for a wider variety of horses. Competition in T1 is very common in Europe and I feel that we should use that form of competition more often here in Iceland. This is a class for horse types which do not fit into the four gaits, five gaits competition or tölt T1 for example but can still be good riding horses and fit well into this class.“

Registration into the Sales tournament is open for everyone and the registration fee is 3.000 Ikr for each horse regardless whether the horse participates in one competition event or more.

It is mandatory to register the horse into a price category. The categories are as follows:

0-600.000
600.000 – 1.200.000
1.200.000 – 1.800.000
1.800.000 – 3.000.000
3.000.000 +

The horses will be introduced in English, German and one Scandinavian language.
