Þoka quite safely the receiver of Gletta trophy

During the end of this week, it will become clear which mares will meet the minimum limit to be rewarded honor prize winnings for their offspring this year. The honor prize will go to mares with a minimum of 116 points or higher as a total BLUP score and a minimum of 5 assessed offspring. It is clear that quite many mares will be added into the group of the 34 mares which have already been honored, and last year, they were unusually many, a total of eight mares. Therefore it is likely that this year the number of mares will increase, because there are nine mares which fulfill the minimum low score before the last update of the BLUP.

Þoka frá Hólum is quite safely the winner of the Gletta trophy of the year with a total BLUP score of 126 points. Þoka is 19 years old and is out of Vafi frá Kýrholti and the honor winning prize mare Þrá frá Hólum who received the price in the year 2000. Þoka was topmost in the class of mares 7 years and older at Landsmót 2002 where she received a total score of 8,64 being the highest assessed breeding horse of the tournament. For the sake of enjoyment it should be mentioned that Gígja frá Auðsholtshjáleigu, who was in 2nd place in the class, behind Þoka, was the receiver of the honor prize last year.

Assessed offspring out of Þoka are: Þóra out of Orri frá Þúfu (total score 8,77) winner in the class of oldest mares at the LM2011, Þeyr (total score 8,46) Son of Aron frá Strandarhöfði, Þilja (total score 8,17) out of Keilir frá Miðsitju, Þrönn (total score 8,31) out of Gustur frá Hóli and Þota out of Orri frá Þúfu (total score 7,90).

Þoka will therefore be the fifth mare from the Hólar College breeding farm who receives the honor prize. Besides her mother, two of her sisters with the same mother, Þóra and Þrenna have received the prize along with Þilja, the daughter of Þrenna who received the prize in 2010.
