Unique tournament
Later on this summer, a new grand tournament will be held for the first time in Holland. An International Masters Tournament of the Icelandic horse will be held August 18th at the Victoriapark stadium in Wolvega, which is only about 90 minutes’ drive from Amsterdam airport.
This tournament is somewhat unconventional. Eight teams, each of them including four riders, will compete in six different events on a direct track; tölt, five gaits, four gaits, pace test, speedpass and canter competition. This is something worth striving for, because the winners will receive a sizeable amount of money.
This Master’s Tournament is the idea of Mike van Engelen and he says that the idea is to enhance and introduce the Icelandic horse in Holland by presenting all the very best the horse has to offer.
The masters riders have welcomed this new tournament and quite many great champions have registered for participation, among them is Jóhann Skúlason, Anne Stine Haugen, Agnar Snorri Stefánsson, Sigurður Matthíasson and Edda Rún Ragnarsdóttir, Uli and Irene Reber, Jolly Schrenk, Magnús Skúlason as well as the master of pace test, Sigurður Marínusson who last year, was the one who celebrated the first world championship title on behalf of Holland.
